Formerly Best Cooking Pulses, Inc., Avena Best Cooking Pulses is known throughout the world as a bulk pulse supplier of high quality, polished green split peas since becoming active in the international pulse industry in 1936. Today, Avena supplies bulk whole, split and decorticated pulses (chickpeas, lentils and peas) across the globe. 

Avena has two pulse processing facilities located in Rowatt, Saskatchewan: a pea splitter using proprietary technology and a whole pulse cleaning and bagging facility. This facility has been certified organic for over 30 years.

Pulses benefit the environment when included in a three or four-year crop rotation system. These crops are conservation tilled, preventing soil erosion and reducing the release of carbon from the soil. No irrigation is required – the crops benefit from the moisture held in the soil, and in the case of pulses, have deep roots that help with moisture management
